This whole thing with campaign fund raising for Steve DeBrum and Captain (Black) Jack Snyder has me in a pissed-off mood lately. This clearly wasn't an event for those of us citizens to support the current incumbents. We were locked out and uninvited. They know exactly that we the average citizen do not have the cash to donate in any significant amounts for them to use, so they go running to the Manteca elite and deep pocket developers and contractors for fast cash. It was a delayed gratification and risk waiting on collecting full payment for a non-consumable monetary reward. Study the effect that delay to receipt of a reward has on the subjective value of that reward.
It was a giant thank you from all those who truly control this entire city. The rich families who own the orchards and land around Manteca and the developers with a network two miles wide and 20 miles across. It was to say, "Thank you for your votes for us to keep up the status quo of doing what we know is in our best interest and keeping ourselves free from any fall-outs down the road." Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against anyone having their own money. This is not the topic.
Look at factors that affect the degree of self-control that people exercise, both the factors that increase the degree of self-control and those that increase impulsive decision-making. Money retains its utility, despite the inconstancy of desire. Money can be exchanged for almost any other reward that one might want, or is dependent upon.
I use to like Jack Snyder, but not anymore. He is now Captain Black-Jack Snyder! He will shuffle his deck of cards for the giant pay out. Let's face it, he is too old for this city and the current boys on the board have an agenda to win the seat and then retire him and vote in who they want to vote in. This is what Willie Weatherford is up to folks.
On the other hand, Steve DeBrum was on the committee for Measure M and after gross mismanagement and reckless spending he is now sorry that he voted for it? Throw me a fricken bone here. They both try to pass off the fund raiser event as just another casual event. Hey, I got news for everyone. This was planned and it was a pay-off. Try to make it appear how you want it to appear, but it was a pay-off 100%.
Do you also notice one other thing? The local newspapers are not even covering all the candidates. They're not even covering the top 2 or maybe 3 contenders. Here they are in order.
1. Samuel Anderson (has my vote and is the strongest)
2. Debby Moorhead (weak and poorly run campaign - must have others do her work)
3. Ben Cantu (newcomer yet is President of noon-Kiwanis with Willie and Jack)
The others need more time in Manteca to make any significant gain in any area especially votes. Good luck, boys, but don't count on any votes coming your way because people seem to want a change, you have to work for it.
Let's also talk about the CRA - The California Republican Assembly of San Joaquin County. What a group of old-aged ultra-right off the chart wackos! These people are too conservative to the point where they are not truly conservative. No one is joining their group and they can't seem to vote on anything. Also, in 2006 they voted only to endorse Vince Hernandez and not Samuel Anderson. Do you want to know why? Because Samuel challenged the very establishment over their moral characters and did not follow the leaders of that group. He had vision and character to see the needs of Manteca over the needs of a stupid agenda of compromising club repubs that caused many Republicans to loose the elections of 2006. Step up to the plate and pay for a membership and you will get endorsed. However, this is not how Samuel Anderson feels about it.
Like I said, I'm feeling very pissed-off today because the more I think of Steve DeBrum and Captain Black-Jack Snyder taking all that money, it just makes me upset. You should be upset, too. These men sold our city, Manteca. Has Dennis Wyatt written about it yet? No. He probably won't.
